Explore historical abandoned mine openings across the province of Nova Scotia, from the coal fields of Cape Breton to the gold districts of the mainland.
How to navigate: Use the search tool to find sites by mine name, shaft ID, or commodity.
On the map, mines are grouped into clusters. The colour of each cluster identifies the most common commodity (such as Coal, Gold, or Iron) in that area. As you zoom in, these clusters will automatically resolve into individual mining nodes.
Refer to the Legend on the bottom right to see which colours delineate specific commodities.
Detailed records—including Opening Type, Land Ownership, and Hazard Degree—are available by clicking any mining node.
